In 2019, Uptown Reinvestment Corporation partnered with architects from Kraemer Design Group to transform the historic, Genesee County Savings Bank into a hip, local destination—the Hilton Garden Inn. They trusted Britten WoodWorks to craft stylish interiors that would blend the building’s original art deco style with more modern design elements.

WoodWorks provided millwork for much of the 148,000-square-foot renovation project. Chic, quartz countertops; hundreds of solid surface window sills; casework and floating shelves. They repurposed marble from the building’s original interiors, using it to create a luxe reception desk. The team also constructed host stands, drink rails, column enclosures, and knee walls for the hotel’s restaurant. Other Millwork elements including the bar, and the bench seating was completed by Holsinger Manufacturing out of Bay City, Michigan.

The renovated and newly modernized Hilton Garden Inn is now a must-see destination in Flint. “The [building’s] transformation symbolizes to the region that the revitalization of the city is underway,” Tim Herman, CEO of Uptown Reinvestment Corp., told Crain’s Detroit Business. “It will provide business and leisure visitors with upscale accommodations and expand the customer base for our local restaurants, arts and cultural institutions, and community events.”
